I had a hybrid CLIO (loaner vehicle) over 3800 km. Amazed in the city, suburbs and on `` flat '' roads (a private return trip from PRIVAS - LA ROCHELLE with a calculated average of 4.3 l / 100 km or as much as my Mégane DCI) I was disappointed in mountainous area use:
- loss of engine braking when the battery is charged (very unpleasant even if the manual specifies it …)
- runaway of the engine on steep climbs (only 4 speeds and a low torque motor).
In conclusion, great in the city, peri-urban and flat region but not adapted to the reliefs.
[…] In the middle of the mountains (Nice hinterland), I was particularly embarrassed by the lack of engine braking.

Hello,
I also experienced the loss of engine brake when going downhill when the battery is full. The first kilometers down the Aubisque were comfortable, but from Gourette to Laruns, I had the feeling of standing on the brakes …
I was looking for and hoping to find a solution, but if I have well read your exchanges, my fears are confirmed.

This car would be top of the line if it weren’t for one big issue that puts the user’s life at risk. Gentlemen testers, go and test it in the mountains, on the descent of a large pass, I guarantee you that you will not arrive alive because no more engine braking as soon as the battery is fully charged, the entire descent is done in freewheel , so on the brakes, I’ll let you imagine the result !! no more braking well before the end of the descent, it’s incredible that renault did not do this test.

Of course, but try to descend from a pass only on the brake … Towards the middle there is nothing left, and I won’t don’t speak when the car is loaded! This has happened to me on several occasions on several cars, because in automatic gearbox it is more frequent (I therefore put myself in sequential).
In short, I finally wanted to add that this concern is also the same on all electric cars when they are fully charged. No more regeneration and no rheostatic brakes … And suddenly everything has to be done with the disc / drum brake, with the key disks which buckle.

Hello,
We have a problem in the mountains but not downhill as mentioned above, rather uphill.
When the battery drains uphill, the gearbox no longer works correctly and generates a very high revving with an infernal noise. The gears no longer shift (we must drive less than 40 km / h) and we can only wait for the end of the hill for the battery to recharge and return to normal driving. The garage has no solution at the moment and tells us that the engine is going into dynamo mode. Anyone have an explanation and some advice?
Thank you

Hello
I wanted to climb 12 km of mountain in Valmorel. Impossible to go up to more than 37 km / h the speeds do not pass the engine races overheats and stinks.
The after-sales service on the Internet took my call down.
I went to Moutiers at Renault where an update was carried out and for the moment things are better.

Yes, I noticed the same point on a new Arkana this weekend in Lozère. Same on the A75 behind. On the way up, the engine does not have enough torque and cannot maintain 130 km / h. Always uphill, with winding roads, the engine races and pushes its consumption to succeed in climbing to 70Km / h

I went down a mountain pass in Auvergne and I have hardly ever been coasting as mentioned above. I love my Clio and recommend it highly. Nothing dangerous in his conduct. You just have to take into account its specificities.
